Good photographs begin with good light. In the digital photography world, the quality of light corresponds to the quality of the photograph. The dramatic light of the early morning and late afternoon can raise the quality of your images. In poorly lit situations use supplemental lighting from the camera's flash in the fill-flash mode.

After visiiting with a wildlife photographer recently we compared some notes on how people and wildlife are similar. When photographing both, trust is a key element in capturing special moments. Ease you way into situations to keep your subject unthreatened.

Funny photos are not necessarily funny to everyone. Especially a reluctant subject! Be aware that people view photos of themselves and their friends differently. Your "funny photo" of a candid moment, wild expression or even an unusual juxtaposition of subjects and backgrounds, other people etc. could produce a negative reaction.
Use good judgment and be sensitive to others' feelings before you show off your "funny photos".

Practice using your camera's menu access to help you develop your skill and increase your speed and ability to make necessary changes to your camera’s settings.
Try reading a section of the manual and then actually repeating that particular sequence using the camera in a hands on exercise. After a few sessions the process will become second nature.

As the holiday season is upon us, remeber that cold weather saps battery strength quickly. A camera battery stored while in transit may need to be recharged upon arrival. Remove and place the batteries in an inside pocket of your coat or jacket to keep them warm and adding to the life of the charge. Dispose of exhausted batteries in a safe and eco-friendly manner.

Adobe's Photoshop is very expensive at nearly $700, Is it worth it?
Dear PS,
Adobe's Photoshop is very expensive at nearly $700, Is it worth it?
On the cheap in Oregon
Dear On the cheap,
Yes! If you plan to take creative steps in dealing with your images, photoshop and the lastest Creative Suite 2 are simply the best and most efficients image handling programs available. Is it "worth it" to you, that depends on what you hope to achieve with your images. I would suggest the Elements version of photoshop as an entry level position. Better yet, check a local computer store or even the Apple Store an invest a little time in attending a couple of their tutorial classes for a "test drive" of the program. Then you'll be better informed before you spend your money.
