Camera phone pics
Summary: Camera phone pics are often shared and sometimes printed. Making prints from cameraphone digital files is an exercise in futility. The lack of quality lenses in a wide range of cameras limits the ability to make quality prints. Presently, viewing the images on the phone screen or downloaded to a computer for viewing is recommended. More technical progress is needed to make quality prints.
Cameraphones are great for making for the record photographs of friends
and even yourself to share with others. If you are at the big game, at
the beach or even with friends in a casual setting, sending a photo is
a celebration in the technical advances in the digital realm.
Lens quality issues
Making a prints from those digital files is a problem. The image
size of the file at 1.2 megapixels, is sufficient for making a 4-inch
by 6-inch print. However, nearly all cameraphones tested by
Portraitsecrets had inferior lenses.
Loss of image quality in the lenses resulted in loss of sharpness,
clarity and contrast. The sealed lenses in the cameras are simply too
small to allow for quality photographs in any situation other than
optimum lighting conditions. The seemingly clear plastic covering the
lenses still results in distortion increased exponentially as files are
enlarged for printing.
Bigger is not better
The photos shown in this article displayed were taken with a variety of
cameraphones. Using the manuals and the settings suggested by the
manufacturer, these images are displayed without any color, contrast or
exposure manipulation.
A final observation
In conclusion, Portraitsecrets celebrates the advances in technical
abilities that allow us to share photographs with others. But for now
that sharing is best confined to the small screen display on the
cameraphones themselves. Here's hoping for additional advances in the
near future that will allow us to make quality prints.

Good photographs begin with good light. In the digital photography world, the quality of light corresponds to the quality of the photograph. The dramatic light of the early morning and late afternoon can raise the quality of your images. In poorly lit situations use supplemental lighting from the camera's flash in the fill-flash mode.

Dear PS,
Adobe's Photoshop is very expensive at nearly $700, Is it worth it?
On the cheap in Oregon
Dear On the cheap,
Yes! If you plan to take creative steps in dealing with your images, photoshop and the lastest Creative Suite 2 are simply the best and most efficients image handling programs available. Is it "worth it" to you, that depends on what you hope to achieve with your images. I would suggest the Elements version of photoshop as an entry level position. Better yet, check a local computer store or even the Apple Store an invest a little time in attending a couple of their tutorial classes for a "test drive" of the program. Then you'll be better informed before you spend your money.
